Winter Scene Photography

Snow, landscape, and a camera, is the perfect combination for a winter photograph. Many people like to take pictures of the beach during the summer, or of a rainy day during the spring. Some people like to take photographs of falling red and orange leaves during the fall, but some forget that the bright white of winter can be just as beautiful. Winter photography can be one of the most adventurous types of seasonal photography there is. There are a few simple "rules" to keep in mind when hunting for the perfect winter picture.

First of all, it is always wise to dress warmly. This includes using layers, and if you need to wear gloves, try wearing thin ones so you can still handle your camera well. Use non-slip boots to prevent accidents or injuries on ice or slippery roads. If your camera uses batteries, make sure to have an extra set on hand, but keep them close to you so they stay warm. One last thing to consider about your camera is that if the lenses fog up, make sure not to rub them. Just let them clear up by themselves, or else you can cause permanent damage to your camera.

When it comes to taking the actual photograph, try to take them either when the sun rises or when it is setting. This brings more light into the white setting and background. You can also try to take photographs of something colored. One last thing about winter photography is that light coming from the side of where you are snapping pictures will show the texture of the snow. Always keep these things in mind when looking for that perfect winter setting.
