Macro Photography 101

Macro photography, as the name says it, is photographing things that appear larger than they actually are. When you see a picture of a close-up flower, that is an example of macro photography, because you are seeing the flower either at its actual size or larger. As you might know, there are now ants that are five or six inches wide, but this is the magic of macro photography.

One tip for those wanting to discover a new side of photography, or are looking for a hobby, is to make sure the object is saturated in enough light, so as to make the picture show all of the elements you wish to capture. Another thing you can do, if you are interested in photographing flowers, might be to spray the flowers prior to photographing. This will give the flower a "freshly rained on" look.

Another piece of advice is to try taking shots at different angles. This will allow you to see one subject in different views. Although it will be the same focal object, it will look different if you photograph it from the front than if you photograph it from the side. Taking frontal photographs emphasizes on the colors, but if you take it from the side, your shot will focus on the texture of the object. Be sure to always remove anything distracting from the background that might take away from your main focus, and try to make your objects fill up the photograph. If you are interested in showing people a different perspective of this world, then macro photographing is the way to go.
