Types of Digital Cameras

Everyone seems to want a digital camera these days. What kind of digital camera should someone purchase? That decision will depend on the kind of photography with which the person is involved. Digital cameras are classified into one of two basic types, compact digital and digital single lens reflex. Each of these types is further divided into other sub classifications.

Compact digital cameras are designed more for the general consumer with its ease of use. Most of them are point-and-click types that require little if any adjustments. Compact digital cameras are classified as ultra or sub compacts, compacts and super zooms. The ultra or sub compacts are small enough to fit in a pocket. They are literally point and shoot. There is usually no view finder or any manual adjustments. Compacts are a bit larger than the ultra or sub compacts. They will not fit in a pocket, but can fit into a purse or handbag. Super zooms will have a much longer zoom range than the compact or sub compact.

Digital single lens reflex cameras are used by serious amateur and professional photographers. They are equipped with many manual controls and also have interchangeable lenses. Because of the manual adjustments that can be made the pictures taken in low light situations will be significantly better than the compact models. There are also many accessories that can be used to improve the creativity and quality of the photographs. Naturally the digital single lens reflex cameras are a lot more expensive than the compact digital cameras.
