Tips On Photographing Flowers

No matter how much experience we have, we can always use more tips when it comes to photographing flowers. There are so many facets to the flowers that we want to catch them all. Close-up is basically the only way to photograph flowers to show every detail of every petal. If you are shooting a landscape of flowers, you will need a wide angle lens to catch the panoramic view of a field of Texas blue bonnets and Indian paint brushes.

If you are shooting individual flower heads, an SLR lens used for detail is the best choice. Filming with a digital optical macro filter will get every detail of the flower and any insect that may fly in at the last second. Micro filters will pick up every vein and hair on the flower. Nothing is more beautiful than the dew on the roses or even a spider web that may be near. Some may even have the chance to take the picture of dew or rain on a rose with a reflection of something in the raindrops.

Taking pictures of flowers at the different times of the day that reflect the sun and shadows on and around the flower is another must-do. Try catching the first rays of the morning sun on a rose or lily with the early morning shadows and the early bug getting its breakfast. Catch the noon day full and bright on a red poppy or the subdued afternoon light that softens the lines of the orange daisy. Don't miss the winter shot of the crocus pushing out of the newly fallen snow.
