Tips On Photographing Lakes and Waterfalls

No matter how many times someone photographs a waterfall or lake, there are still unique photos left to be taken. No two days are the same, when taking photos of water. Take photos at different times of the day and get different results each time.

You need to be careful with the lighting you use for your photos. Some mornings, as the sun comes up, it may peek through the tree tops and cause uneven lighting on your subject. However, when you want certain affects on a lake photo, the sunlight might be needed for a special glare on a rock or object you are photographing.

To capture the action of the waters, use a slow shutter speed. It is also advisable to use slow film. The slower the shutter speed, the silkier the water will look in your photos. Because the shutter speed is slower, you cannot hold the camera still enough to photograph any picture successfully. A tripod will hold your camera still enough for slow shutter speed photos. If you find that you prefer to take your water photos in the brighter sunlight, use a neutral density filter. This will help filter the sunlight and make your photos look deeper and richer in color.

Learn all about your camera and all the settings it has. See if your camera already has a lake and waterfall setting on it . Do not be afraid to waste film while you learn how to use the different shutter speeds. Take photo after photo until you are comfortable with your camera and get your beautiful photos.
