Tips on Macro Photography

If you love photography but cannot find good pictures outside of family get-togethers, why not try macro photography? It will help you see things in a completely different light by discovering the smaller things in this world. Most people are so busy looking for the larger things of interest they fail to see the smaller things that are right before their very eyes. An extremely close up of insects, flowers or even a pebble or water droplet can be fun and educational as well as amazing to look at.

Like any other photo, you should keep it simple, fill the photo frame with your subject. Make sure you keep the picture in sharp focus and shoot from different angles. For rich colors use front lighting to get a good texture photo of your subject, side lighting will help. Due to the close proximity of your camera to your subject, the background will be out of focus and allows you to use the natural backdrop. Beginners can use the basic lenses they already have on hand. The most used lens is the 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 and is capable of Macro shots with the addition of a close-up lens and extension tubes.

A close up lens screws on the front of the 50mm lens to give it more magnification and is available in six different powers. An extension is a spacer between the camera and the lens to increase image size. However, the disadvantage to an extension is that there is some light loss. The smaller things in life are what make good macro photographs. Macro photography allows you to take larger than life pictures of almost anything. Get ready to enter a whole other world as you explore with macro photography.
